Welcome

Dear All

We are happy to invite you to the 2022 National Research Day Palliative Care in Bern organized by the palliative care research switzerland platform. We deeply hope that the evolution of the pandemic will allow coming together in August.

Palliative Care research still needs special effort to consolidate: few groups in our country show a critical size for sustainability, funding opportunities specific for Palliative Care are rare. It is therefore of the essence to keep connected and to support each other.

The 2022 research day intends

  • to organize a festival of ideas and to promote thinking out of the box for young talents as well as for current and future developers in Palliative Care with a broad spectrum of professional background: completed projects are equally welcome as interesting project ideas in an earlier stage as well as – new this time – quality improvement projects.
  • to continue our national platform activities: a bi-annual alternation of summer academy and national research day.
  • to attract researchers, clinicians, project leaders, and students for discussion, reflection, promotion of careers and exchange,
  • to offer opportunities for discussion with clinicians (all professions) and patient/ public representatives in terms of potential impact/ implementation in practice.

We know that the language barrier is a real issue. Nobody loves to express detailed thoughts in another language. However, our common language in multicultural Switzerland is English. The organizers will offer support for those who like to participate but do not feel firm in English. We will find creative ways – as we always do in Palliative Care.

The 2022 research day cannot count on financial support from national or regional organisations so far – good for credibility, bad for the budget. Nevertheless, we hope that many of you are willing to come, join, present and discuss in a unique and inspiring atmosphere.
